How do they Do It?

Is it just me or does anyone else bother that those verbose/rambling spammers get past word verification? Heck half the time, I have to retype my word verifications.

Yes I am still alive and kicking. Just hibernating in this cold a$$ weather.

Contact Email

I don't know if you noticed or not, but I have added my email contact information on the right column of the blog. I have hillbilly encoded my address so spam bots or whatever harvests email addresses hopefully do not pick it up.

If you don't want to comment on the blog or are too shy to leave your name for everyone else to see, just drop me an email at: zeecountrygal at yahoo dot com. You know to replace the "at" and "dot" with the proper symbols. I promise to keep your email address private.

Tweaking My Blog

Just to forewarn you or post warn some of you. I am tweaking my blog colors and widths and things. I am trying to make it easier to read with a little bit bigger font on the posts and a little wider too.

In addition to the "Things I find Interesting" widget mentioned in the previous post, there several things going on in the right hand side bar - several options for subscribing, archives, blogroll which shows updated blogs, my visitors, my sponsors (new ones coming soon) and clips of what I am posting on my MySpace blog. I will be adding more as time goes by - a link to my OurChart and categories/best of RL and whatever tickles my fancy. At the bottom of this blog is a current picture of what is in the field behind our house.

Let me know if things are out of kilter or what changes you would like to see.

Things I Find Interesting - New Widget

I have added a new little widget with orange links along the right hand side of this blog. Scroll down and then come back up. I will wait.

Okay, these are things I think are interesting on other's blogs that you might find interesting too. Right now they only allow 10 max links. If you click on the "read more" link, it will list each post in full on one page. Hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think.

Having Trouble Keeping Up?

I am fairly new to blogging, I started in mid January. I have been back on the Internet now for a little over a year. And yes, I did manage to live without the Internet and cable at the same time for a couple of years. Well, now that I am into this blogging thing, I can't get enough of it. Reading other folks blogs is really starting to eat into my free time. I will stay up late and read about other people and their lives. I usually read wimmin's blogs, but I really like to look at what other lesbians are up to.

If you are new to blogging, you probably just book mark the page and may come back to it again later. I have found a much better solution, 3 as a matter of fact. The first one I came across is located in the newest version of yahoo mail, whick is in beta and takes a little while to load. But lo and behold on the left hand pane, I found a list of all the feeds that I had been putting on my MyYahoo page for the last year. Now I don't even have to open up my MyYahoo page at all to see them. Plus they put a little star next to the ones with new content.

The second way to keep up with all the new blogs I am reading is to subscribe to them via Google's Reader. Anyone can sign up for a Google account and email now, no special requirements. If you blog on Blogger, then you already have an account. Just surf on over to your book marked blogs and add the URL to your reader. What I like most about Google reader is that you can set your list to only list the blogs that have new content. This is very efficient for those who like to keep up but don't have time to go through each one to see if there is something new.

The third way to keep up is through email subscriptions. If you blog offers email subscriptions through Feedburner or some other source, then just input your email address and you get the new content in your email inbox each day/week however the author has it set up.

This blog offers all three of these options in the right hand column. Just remember to log into your Yahoo or Google first before clicking on the " MyYahoo" or "Add to Google" buttons. Or you can just put your email address in the box and hit the Subscribe button. I really recommend giving Google Reader a test run on a few of your favorite blogs, just to see how you like it. If you are like me, very quickly you will have as many as 20 or 30 blogs on your list to keep up with.

Happy blogging and blog reading!

Rural Lesbian Email Subscriptions Now Available

The newest addition to Rural Lesbian is email subscriptions. On the right column on my blog, you will see a new box for putting your email address. If you want all new posts sent directly to your email inbox, fill in your email address and you won't miss a post. Privacy is of utmost concern to me, and your email will not be shared with anyone, so you don't have to worry about that.

Another great tool for keeping up with your favorite blogs, which I use, is adding it to My Yahoo. In the new beta version of yahoo mail, you can look at your subscribed feeds right in your email window. It also lets you know when there is new content, so you don't waste your time looking at stuff you have already read.

You can add any site to My Yahoo that has a feed URL. The easiest way to add a feed to yahoo is to 1) log into yahoo, 2) click on the add to my yahoo icon on the right hand side of this blog. Or you can add the feed URL directly to your feed reader by copying and pasting:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/RuralLesbian

I post a shorter feed version, so to view the rest of a post, just click on the post title. Please also note polls and some other items will not show up in the feed, you have to click on the post title to view the whole post.

Now I know I have thoroughly confused some of you. If you have any questions, post them in the comments section and I will do my best to answer them.
