I am fairly new to blogging, I started in mid January. I have been back on the Internet now for a little over a year. And yes, I did manage to live without the Internet and cable at the same time for a couple of years. Well, now that I am into this blogging thing, I can't get enough of it. Reading other folks blogs is really starting to eat into my free time. I will stay up late and read about other people and their lives. I usually read wimmin's blogs, but I really like to look at what other lesbians are up to.
If you are new to blogging, you probably just book mark the page and may come back to it again later. I have found a much better solution, 3 as a matter of fact. The first one I came across is located in the newest version of yahoo mail, whick is in beta and takes a little while to load. But lo and behold on the left hand pane, I found a list of all the feeds that I had been putting on my MyYahoo page for the last year. Now I don't even have to open up my MyYahoo page at all to see them. Plus they put a little star next to the ones with new content.
The second way to keep up with all the new blogs I am reading is to subscribe to them via Google's Reader. Anyone can sign up for a Google account and email now, no special requirements. If you blog on Blogger, then you already have an account. Just surf on over to your book marked blogs and add the URL to your reader. What I like most about Google reader is that you can set your list to only list the blogs that have new content. This is very efficient for those who like to keep up but don't have time to go through each one to see if there is something new.
The third way to keep up is through email subscriptions. If you blog offers email subscriptions through Feedburner or some other source, then just input your email address and you get the new content in your email inbox each day/week however the author has it set up.
This blog offers all three of these options in the right hand column. Just remember to log into your Yahoo or Google first before clicking on the " MyYahoo" or "Add to Google" buttons. Or you can just put your email address in the box and hit the Subscribe button. I really recommend giving Google Reader a test run on a few of your favorite blogs, just to see how you like it. If you are like me, very quickly you will have as many as 20 or 30 blogs on your list to keep up with.
Happy blogging and blog reading!
